Pulse Activation Treatment (EPAT®)

 EPAT

Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment (EPAT®) is the most advanced and highly effective non-invasive treatment method cleared by the FDA and used globally. This proprietary technology accelerates the healing process by utilizing a unique set of pressure waves that stimulate the metabolism and enhance blood circulation. Damaged tissue gradually regenerates and eventually heals. A broad range of musculoskeletal conditions can be successfully treated using this non-invasive breakthrough treatment option that is office based.

What conditions can be treated?

Conditions that impair mobility or lessen the quality of life such as acute or chronic muscle pain and/or tendon insertional pain in the following areas:

  • Neck
  • Shoulder
  • Back and chest
  • Upper extremity
  • Lower extremity
  • Foot and ankle
  • Myofascial trigger points

What are the possible side effects?

The non-invasive EPAT® treatment has nearly no risks or side effects. Occasionally, some patients may experience minor soreness which may continue for a few days. It is normal to have some residual discomfort after intense exercise or a full-day of work

What are the expected results?

The beneficial effects of Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment (EPAT®) are often experienced after only 3 treatments. Some patients report immediate pain relief after the treatment, although it can take up to four weeks for pain relief to begin. The procedure eliminates pain and restores full mobility, thus improving your quality of life. Over 80% of patients treated report to be pain free or have significant pain reduction.

Is EPAT® safe?

Yes. This FDA cleared technology was developed in Europe and is currently used around the globe. A wealth of medical experience, state-of-the-art engineering and optimal quality have been built into each EPAT® device, and extensive clinical studies and tests have confirmed its safety and efficacy. When performed by a qualified practitioner Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Treatment (EPAT®) has virtually no risks or side effects.

What is the duration of the treatment?

Treatment sessions take approximately 15 minutes depending on the condition being treated.

How many treatments will I need?

Generally, 3 to 5 treatment sessions are necessary at weekly intervals. In rare chronic cases additional treatment sessions may be necessary.

What will happen after treatment?

You will receive post-treatment instructions from Dr. Rivano to follow during your recovery.

What if I have a special health condition?

Dr. Rivano will provide you with information about how certain conditions might affect the determination to perform the EPAT® procedures. The safety and effectiveness of the EPAT® procedure has not been determined on people with the following health conditions.

  • Malignancies
  • DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)

How is the treatment performed?

First, coupling gel is applied to the treatment area to enhance effectiveness. The EPAT® is turned on and the applicator is applied to the treatment area. EPAT® pressure waves are released via the applicator as it is moved over the treatment area in a circular motion.

Why Consider Non-Invasive EPAT®?

The proven success rate of EPAT® is equal to or greater than that of traditional treatment methods (including surgery) and without the risks, complications and lengthy recovery time. EPAT® is performed in the office, does not require anesthesia, requires a minimal amount of time, patients can bear weight (i.e. walk) immediately, and return to normal activity within a few days of the procedure.
