Office Ergonomics and Neck Pain in Florham Park

Working in an office day in and day out can wreak havoc on the cervical area of your spine, causing you neck pain that not only affects your professional life, but your personal life too. In addition to having regular visits with Dr. Rivano, your Florham Park chiropractor, to help take care of the problem, you can also benefit from a few adjustments to your office ergonomics.

What are Office Ergonomics?

Ergonomics refers to the environment you work in and the tools you use to do your job. Office ergonomics, then, specifically involves an office setting and various “tools” such as office chairs, desks, computers, and anything else that you use during the course of your work day. The key is to set all of these items up in a way to alleviate and possibly prevent any neck pain.

Here are some things you will want to do to achieve both of these goals:

  • Place your computer monitor so that your eyes are staring at the top third of the screen when you are looking straight ahead.

  • Use a chair that has lower back supports and adjust the height of the seat so that your feet are flat on the floor in front of you, knees at a 90 degree angle.

  • Choose a desk where your forearms are perpendicular to the floor when you are typing and keep your elbows at your side as opposed to placing them on the arms of the chair.

  • Always be aware of your posture whether you are seated, standing, or walking around the office.
